US president Donald Trump has made another vow to hit Vladimir Putin where it hurts – but under two conditions.
The 79-year-old took to his Truth Social platform today to say he will impose major sanctions on Russia.
But, for this to happen, it will need Nato nations to do the same and to stop buying Russian oil.
In a letter sent to ‘all Nato nations and the world’, he wrote: ‘I am ready to do major Sanctions on Russia when all NATO Nations have agreed, and started, to do the same thing, and when all NATO Nations STOP BUYING OIL FROM RUSSIA.
‘As you know, NATO’S commitment to WIN has been far less than 100%, and the purchase of Russian Oil, by some, has been shocking!

‘It greatly weakens your negotiating position, and bargaining power, over Russia. Anyway, I am ready to “go” when you are. Just say when?’
The UK has already imposed 100 new sanctions on Russia. Foreign secretary Yvette Cooper announced a raft of measures on Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’ that transports Russian oil, and businesses and individuals that supply electronics, explosives, and chemicals used to build missiles.
Earlier this week, Trump said he was ready to move to a second stage of sanctions without revealing what they would entail.
Days later, Russia shook the world after Poland was forced to shoot down drones in its airspace.
It triggered Nato’s Article 4, which asks members to consult with each other over potential threats.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the incident pushed Europe the closest to conflict since the Second World War.
Trump’s latest statement comes three days after his close MAGA ally Charlie Kirk was shot dead during a debate at Utah Valley University.
Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah, is currently in custody accused of the killing following a 33 hour manhunt.
And on Thursday he raised concern with his drooping face during a September 11 memorial ceremony.
